SPRING REGATTA REPORT

On April 17th, Pelican Yacht Club held its annual Spring Regatta and in conjunction hosted the Flying Scot Association’s Cajun Country Championship. Early that morning the preparations were complete and everything looked like a great regatta ahead, house, grounds, and docks were ready; the WIND was not.  Two races were completed but for the most part in very light and fluky air.  In spite of disappointing wind we had a beautiful day of racing and socializing on False River.  The Regatta was a great success with a good turnout of Flying Scots and various Portsmouth racers, with a few out-of-towners.

Race support came from West Marine with a support boat;  the committee boat was furnished by Devin Broome and race officials consisting of Herb Sumrall, Steve Luthy and Lynn Fickle.  This group of individuals are commended for their professionally run regatta.

The lunch was a hit with all the hungry sailors, Brisket provided by Terry McDonner, Baked Beans by Ann Broome, Potato Salad by Alice Lauve and many other snacks and deserts by other club members.

Four teams sailed for the Flying Scot Association Cajun Country Championship trophy.
