Week Two

The second Sunday of the Coffee Pot series was sailed in sunny albeit slightly frigid conditions on beautiful False River.

One race was completed in light and very shifty conditions that had all three competitors leading at one point or another on the race course.

Hank Saurage won the race handily on corrected time and showed how perseverence can win the day.

The Broomes provided a great Taco Soup with all the fixings for lunch and a good time was had by all.

We will race again this Sunday and lunch will once again be available to all.

Come on out and support your club!

Week 4

This past Sunday we had a great sailing day with fresh breeze and nice weather.
Everyone had their hands full as most boats planed downwind to the first mark and returned upwind in strong but shifty breeze.
A few folks had some mishaps but were able to eventually make it back to the club thanks to the assistence of Dennis and his big boat.
we should give Dennis a Coast Guard rescue award.
Eight boats showed up to race but only 5 were able to complete the first race and 4 in the second race.
Hank Saurage showed everyone how to sail a Sunfish in good breeze and came out with two bullets for the day.
Ermyne and Terry brought awesome chili with all the fixins and everyone had a great time prior to heading home and watching the Saints win the NFC Championship.
The results for these races were as follows:

Race #6

1 Saurage--Sunfish
2 Parker--Flying Scot
3 Evans--Sunfish
4 Bradley--Y-flyer
5 Richard--Sunfish

Race #7

1 Saurage--Sunfish
2 Evans--Sunfish
3 Parker--Flying Scot
4 Bradley--Y-Flyer

We have decided to try using an average scoring system to determine the winner of the Coffee Pot race series this year.
This allows someone to miss one weekend or racing but still be able to win the series.
This does require that in order to be eligible to win the Coffee Pot series at least 75% of races (6-7 races) must be raced.
However, even if you may not be in the running for the trophy, please come on out and enjoy the great hospitality and fun sailing at the club.
It's a great opportunity to learn some racing techniques and ask questions.
At this point using the Average Low Point Scoring System the results are as follows: Series Results (Avg. score, number of races completed)

1 Saurage (1.20 with 5 races raced)
2 Parker (1.86 with 7 races raced)
3 Evans (2.33 with 6 races raced)
4 Carpenter (4.00 with 5 races raced)
5 Bradley (4.00 with 3 races raced)

The last race (or races) of the season will be sailed this Sunday, Jan.31.
Come on out and join the fun!!

Week Five

The last day of the 2010 Coffee Pot Series was sailed on Sunday Jan. 31. It was a beautiful day with light but steady breeze and four boats raced. Thanks to Greg, we were able to use his boat to set a good windward-leward course since the breeze was generally out of the north. The racing was competitive and fun with everyone getting into the racing mix. A great soup lunch was provided by Bob and Lydia which everyone appreciated. The results for the final two races are as follows:

Race 8:

1 Parker--Flying Scot
2 Evans--Sunfish
3 Saurage--Sunfish
4 Richard--Sunfish--DNF

Race 9:

1 Saurage--Sunfish
2 Evans--Sunfish
3 Parker--Flying Scot

The overall series results were scored using a low point average score system where each competitor had to race at least 6 races to be scored. The 2010 winner of the Pelican Yacht Club Coffee Pot Series is Hank Saurage sailing his Sunfish. Congratulations Hank on sailing a great series. Thanks to everyone who came out each week to participate in the fun and festivities. Let's do it again next year. Keep in mind that the Pelican Spring Regatta is Saturday April 17. We will be hosting the annual Cajun Country Championships in Flying Scots on the same date so reserve your boats now! The final Coffee Pot results are as follows:

Final Series Results:

1 Hank Saurage--Sunfish--(1,2,1,1,1,3,1 Avg Score: 1.43)
2 Rob Parker--Flying Scot--(2,1,2,2,1,2,3,1,3 Avg. Score 1.89)
3 Brent Evans--Sunfish--(3,3,1,2,3,2,2,2 Avg. Score 2.25)
