Coffee Pot Series |
|
Each January our club starts its sailing season with a series of Sunday afternoon club races known as the Coffee Pot Series. This series of races are a very informal non-threatening event and a great way to learn the basics of racing. For those of you not familiar with the "Coffee Pot", it is a Pelican perpetual trophy that dates back to the 1960's and is awarded annually to the boat/skipper who scores in a series of races which traditionally take place every Sunday in January( weather permitting). The trophy is currently on display in the front room of the clubhouse and is worth taking a look at to see some of the great sailors in Pelicans past. |

Week 1 The first coffee pot was held Sunday Jan. 7th. The lake was closed due to high water and it rained most of the afternoon, therefore we were unable to get any races in. Can't sail, well we can still enjoy a great social and wonderful meal furnished by our own Brent and Monique. |

Week 4 This past Sunday marked the end of our annual coffee Pot series. Once again we had a good turnout. Even though were were only able to get in 4 races in the series, it was worth the effort by everyone who attended. Going into Sundays races it was a 2 way tie between the Parkers and Weavers. Rust and David won the first race and the Parkers took the second. By tie breaker, the Parkers won the series. In addition Reed Richard braved the conditions and raced his Laser, but the rest of us chose to stay at the clubhouse and watch the races unfold. We preferred the social part that day with 46 deg. temp and wind, that does it to some of us. Did I mention the lunch, furnished by our Commodore and Master Chef Greg Bradley, It was great and enjoyed by every one. |
